Position Summary
The Security Cooperation Administrative Assistant supports the DOD–AFRICOM office by providing administrative, clerical, and operational assistance related to U.S. security cooperation activities in Ethiopia. The position requires strong administrative skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work in a sensitive diplomatic environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Completion of at least two years of college or university studies is required
- Applicants must address this requirement in the ERA application under Education
Work Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience in clerical or administrative fields
- Experience must be clearly addressed in the ERA application under Major Duties and Responsibilities
Language Requirements
- Good working knowledge of English (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Good working knowledge of Amharic (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Language proficiency may be tested
Applicants must address language requirements in the ERA application.
Job Knowledge
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of Ethiopian security culture and political environment
- Understanding of Ethiopia’s political structures, security challenges, and cultural sensitivities
- Awareness of legal and regulatory frameworks governing U.S.–Ethiopia security cooperation
This must be addressed in the ERA application under Major Duties and Responsibilities.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in computer use and MS Office applications
- Ability to use the internet for research and information gathering
- Strong typing and word-processing skills
- Ability to prepare graphics and materials for briefings and presentations
- Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and data management systems
- Must possess a valid Grade 2 driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years driving experience
- Ability to operate and maintain a Non-Tactical Vehicle
- Professional conduct and ability to represent the organization positively when dealing with the public

Additional Conditions of Employment
- Successful candidates must pass a background investigation
- A pre-employment medical examination may be required
- Selected candidates must be able to start work within four (4) weeks of receiving authorization and/or clearance
