About the Rowland Fellowship
Established in 1980 by Edwin Land and now administered by the Rowland Institute at Harvard University, the Rowland Fellowship offers early-career scientists and engineers a rare opportunity to lead independent, high-impact experimental research. Financial Benefits

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Rowland Fellowships 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold (or be pursuing) a PhD in experimental science or engineering, completed after May 1, 2024
- Complete their PhD before starting the fellowship (start dates range from September to December 2026)
- Propose research that is experimental in nature; theoretical or clinical/human-subject research is not eligible
- Be passionate about scientific innovation and willing to work in a cross-disciplinary environment
- Open to candidates from all accredited international and U.S. institutions
- Harvard will provide visa support for international fellows

Finalists will visit the Rowland Institute, meet current Fellows and staff, and present their research vision during a two-day symposium in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
