About UNECA
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) supports African countries in achieving inclusive and sustainable development through policy research, technical assistance, and advocacy. The Technology, Innovation, Connectivity, and Infrastructure Division (TICID) leads the Commission’s work on emerging technologies, innovation, and digital transformation.
This internship offers hands-on experience in research, data analysis, and policy support in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Fintech, Cybersecurity, Digital Public Infrastructure, and Data Governance.
Key Responsibilities
The Research and Analysis Intern will report to the Innovation and Digital Transformation Section (ETIDTS) under TICID. Responsibilities include:
- Parliamentary Documents & Technical Research: Conduct literature reviews, data synthesis, and draft reports and key messages for the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (COM) and the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD).
- Substantive Convenings: Assist in preparing reports for high-level forums including the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Forum, Africa WSIS Regional Review, and African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF).
- Situational Analysis: Conduct country-level analyses of emerging technologies, digital readiness, and regulatory frameworks to support policy and project development.
- Content Creation & Management: Support development of digital content, infographics, social media posts, and maintenance of databases and web platforms.
Qualifications & Skills
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (Master’s or equivalent), or in final year of a Bachelor’s program relevant to the internship.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Note: No professional work experience is required. Internship is unpaid. Travel, visa, accommodation, and living costs are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
Languages
- English is mandatory; French or other UN languages are advantageous.
