About Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI)

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through collaboration between the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health. Named after Dr. Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen—the Norwegian physician who discovered the leprosy bacillus—AHRI has become a leading biomedical research institute in Ethiopia.

Under the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 376/2016, AHRI operates as a center of excellence in biomedical research, clinical trials, and research capacity building, contributing significantly to national and global health innovations.

Available Positions

1. Junior Researcher – Public Health or Health Informatics

Qualifications:

  • BSc Degree in Public Health or Health Informatics from a recognized university.
  • Minimum CGPA: 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female applicants.
  • No prior work experience required (Fresh Graduates encouraged to apply).

Additional Competencies:

  • Willingness to work in rural/remote field sites for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication in English and Afan Oromo.
  • Knowledge of data tools (ODK, REDCap, KoboToolbox) is advantageous.
  • Basic skills in R, STATA, and data monitoring preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office).

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with travel to West Arsi Zone (Shashemene Zuria, Negele Arsi, Shalla Woredas).

2. Junior Researcher – Medical Laboratory Technologist

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in clinical or research laboratories (malaria diagnostics preferred).
  • Proficiency in blood collection, malaria microscopy, RDTs, and biosafety procedures.
  • Fluency in Afan Oromo (spoken and written).

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with travel to Shalla Woreda, West Arsi Zone, Oromia.

3. Junior Researcher – Malaria Microscopist

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Experience in malaria microscopy is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work during weekends or off-hours when required .Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent field travel to Shalla Woreda, West Arsi Zone.

Terms of Employment

  • One-year full-time contract (renewable).
  • Salary: ETB 10,386 per month.
  • Fieldwork required for all roles.
